International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8th. Women’s Day since 1914. It has been celebrated since 1914 and is a national holiday in 27 countries. Its significance is a civil awareness day, women and girls day, anti-sexism day, and anti-discrimination day. International Women’s Day is also called World Women’s Day, Women’s Struggle Day, and Women’s World Day. However, International Women’s Day was first celebrated in 1911 on March 19th by Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.

The United States of America
Did you know that International Women’s Day is not an official holiday in the USA? Yet, March is appointed as Women’s History Month, dedicated to women’s achievements in the past and in the present. Many different events are held. For example, seminars, corporate events, rallies, etc.
Mexico
March 8th is International Women’s Day in Mexico. On this day, people are united in order to be heard. People fight against violence against women, which is of great number. In addition, they fight against sexism in Mexican society. On this day, many women gather together to demonstrate power and importance. Women demonstrate to their government the importance of women in the country.
Germany
In Germany, International Women’s Day is called Frauentag. Only in 2019, International Women’s Day became a public holiday.
On this day, women celebrate their accomplishments and contributions to society. Some companies give women the day off work. They also hold events to celebrate women.
Ways to contribute to International Women’s Day
Support is extremely important. You can contribute to women in many ways.
Support book written by woman/women
You could get a book written by a woman. For example, “Shut up, you look prettier”, don’t talk about money: Recover your financial health, save and invest (Spanish Edition) written by Maribel Reyna (founder and CEO of Verbal Bridges)
Listen to podcasts or read blogs created by women or helping women
For example, you could listen to THE MADAME MONEYPENNY PODCAST (financial independence for women who want to become independent) in German or Se Regalan Dudas (it was born from the infinite need to question everything. Everything that is around us) or a blog #teachingisfun (in English and Spanish) which was created for self-employed foreign language teachers with tips on teaching as well as writing.

Support a woman-owned small business
By buying from women-owned businesses, you support them and help make a difference. When you shop for products and services, look for those owned by women.
Publish your testimonials
You can leave your testimonials on social media, a website, or a platform such as Yelp. Customers trust what others say about a business. If a business has good customer reviews, customers are likely to spend more.
Send a supportive/encouraging message
Another way to support is to write a note to women. Tell them you appreciate what they do. It won’t cost you anything and will take you only 5 minutes.
Donate to organizations led by women or supporting women
It is a great idea to donate to your local women’s shelter or another charity organization that is run by women or for women.
Whichever way you choose to support women, remember that you can contribute in more than one way.
